Friends of Edgbaston Reservoir came together as a group in 1990 to protect and promote the many assets of the Reservoir and its surrounding area.
Edgbaston Reservoir is a beautiful spot with a fascinating history which continues to be enjoyed by so many people. It is a designated Local Nature Reserve and a site of considerable historic significance.
The reservoir is a 70 acre site and has a 1.75 mile perimeter. It is situated in Ladywood, and is less than two miles from Birmingham's city centre.
The reservoir was designed and built by Thomas Telford in 1827 and supplied the new Main Line Canal which replaced the canal built by James Brindley.
Edgbaston Reservoir offers a large number of activities for people of all ages. It attracts people from right across Birmingham and the wider region.
Both experienced and novice sailors are welcome at its sailing club. Rowers, canoeists, wind-surfers and sea cadets also make great use of the large expanse of water.
Walkers, joggers, cyclists, lovers of nature, and families all enjoy time spent on the paths arounf the edge of the reservoir.
The reservoir is both a place of natural beauty and a wonderful peaceful place to spend quality time enjoying.
