Five Ways Clock Tower - history
The clock tower was erected at Five Ways near Calthorpe Road and Harborne Road, Edgbaston in the late 19th century, to commemorate the first Coroner of the Borough of Birmingham, John Birt Davies (1799 - 1878), who took the roll in 1839, and retired 36 years later, in 1875, at the age of 76.

After his death in 1878, the clock was erected in his memory.

The clock faces many landmarks in Five Ways, including the Marriott Hotel (now Delta Hotels Marriott).

The closest building to it is the Grade II listed, 60 Calthorpe Road, which is now part of a Costa Coffee Drive Thru.

The clock outlived King Edward VI Five Ways School, which was located in what is now the middle of the island from around 1883 to 1958 (the school relocated to Bartley Green).
