St Mary's is a Roman Catholic Church on Vivian Road in Harborne, Birmingham. Built from 1875 to 1877. The building was blessed in 1911 by the Bishop of Birmingham Edward Ilsley.

The congregation was formed by Passionists who originally worshipped in the disused Methodist Chapel on the Harborne High Street from 1870. The church at Vivian Road began in September 1875 and was opened by February 1877.

St Mary's Catholic Church - history

The first congregation was formed in 1870 by the Passionists, and they worshipped in a disused Methodist Chapel on the Harborne High Street.

Work began to build the current St Mary's Church on Vivian Road in September 1875.

The architects was Dunn & Hansom.

It was completed and opened by February 1877.

Harborne Lodge to the rear was felt to be too confined and inconvenient for a religious community.

A new Retreat was planned, linking up the original house with the present church.

The impressive ceremonial building was blessed and opened towards the end of May 1911 by the Bishop of Birmingham Edward Ilsley.

VS. Peel designed a long wing of 1910-11.

A replacement church for the Augusinians was by Brian A. Rush & Partners of 1977-78.

Stained glass in the chancel dated 1898.

Lady chapel by Hardmans of 1917.

Parish Centre built 1990-91.
