Acocks Green Station - A Birmingham Gem!

Acocks Green Station is on the Dorridge to Birmingham Snow Hill line. It originally opened in 1852. Currently two platforms on an island. It is between Solihull and Tyseley.

Where is Acocks Green Station?

Acocks Green Station is on Sherbourne Road, Acocks Green, Birmingham, B27 6EB

In brief

The former Great Western Railway opened a station at Acocks Green in 1852 on their line between London Paddington and Birkenhead Woodside. It was renamed to Acocks Green and South Yardley in 1878. Then later back to Acocks Green in 1968. The station originally had four platforms on two islands. But after nationalisation, British Rail had one island platform demolished (probably in the 1960s). This is now the station car park. When the station was run by London Midland, a new bridge with lifts was built in 2014 and was open by 2015. Today West Midlands Railway runs services from Dorridge on the Snow Hill Lines, while Chiltern Railways passes the station (not stopping) on the Chiltern Mainline between London Marylebone and Birmingham Moor Street (or Snow Hill) via Leamington Spa.

The new bridge with lifts, allows people to get from the car park to the island platform, such as those with pushchairs or in wheelchairs. It was open by early 2015.

The Birmingham Snow Hill to Dorridge Line has been served by Class 172 diesel multiple units since 2011 (under London Midland, later West Midlands Railway from late 2017). After Acocks Green, they stop at Olton, Solihull, Widney Manor and Dorridge.
