St Peter's Church, Harborne - history

There has been a church on this site since Saxon times.

St Chad is thought to have preached here.

The base of a preaching cross was found in the middle of the 1980s during work at the back of the church, this is now the Church Hall garden.

The present building is Grade II listed.

The lowest stage dates to the 14th century.

While the battlemented west tower dates to the 15th century.

The nave, aisles, transepts and apsidal chapel all date to 1867 and were by Yeoville Thomason.

Built of red sandstone.

The east window is in memory of David Cox (1783 - 1859), the watercolourist who lies buried in the churchyard.
