The Botanist is at Gas Street Basin near Bridge Street in Westside, Birmingham. It was formerly a pub called The James Brindley. Was The Canal House from 2017 to 2024.

The Botanist is located at 12 Bridge Street, Birmingham, B1 2JR. It is at Gas Street Basin.

 

In brief

Formerly a pub called the James Brindley, but it was closed for years, before it was converted into The Canal House in 2017. The Canal House to be renamed to The Botanist from 6th March 2024.

The Canal House - details

The James Brindley pub was built at the Bridge Street site in the 1980s, replacing a former canalside warehouse.

It was a very popular venue during the 1990s.

But it closed down for good in 2008.

It was then boarded up and derelict until 2017.

After being closed for about 8 or 9 years, work began to transform The James Brindley into The Canal House around Spring 2017.

By the early summer of 2017, the main structure of The Canal House was now visible from Gas Street Basin.

By the end of the summer of 2017, The Canal House was complete, and ready to open to the public.

By the autumn of 2017, The Canal House was looking good from Gas Street Basin, with Arena Central behind.

Winter 2017, Gas Street Basin after dark, and The Canal House looks pretty with it's fairy lights turned on.

Two years on, and The Canal House in autumn and winter 2019 still looked good with it's fairy lights around Christmas time, with the Arena Central developments behind it.

Near the end of 2021, you could now see the BT Tower, with it's new logo with The Canal House from Gas Street Basin, and the seasonal Big Wheel at Ice Skate Birmingham.

More recently, The Canal House had installed Winter Cabins on the Canal, which would be useful during the freezing cold winter months.
