The Distillery - history

Originally a public house called The Fiddle & Bone.

It was located at the end of Sheepcote Street at the Roundhouse.

The pub closed down in 2004, probably due to noise issues, as by then there was a lot of new city centre apartments in the area.

In the following decade, the building got quite derelict.

By 2013, the rear of The Fiddle & Bone was in a sorry state from the canalside.

Windows were boarded up, and there was weeds growing that needed cutting down.

Two years later in 2015, The Fiddle & Bone was under new ownership, the pub was fully restored and reopened to customers.

There was even colourful picnic tables in the courtyard outside the pub.

Two years later, The Fiddle & Bone was renamed to The Distillery and it was opened in 2017.

Pub signs

The Fiddle & Bone had a couple of pub signs on Sheepcote Street.

In 2013, it had a cartoon of a cat playing a violin with a dog holding a trumpet in it's jaw.

The brewery until the early 2000s was Theakston Traditional Brewers.

Early in 2015, there was a sign on the Fiddle & Bone announcing that the pub was reopening soon (at the time).

It was associated with Sherborne Wharf.

All change by the summer of 2017, as the pub was now called The Distillery.

And they now serve Roundhouse Gin here.
