In brief

The organisation was founded in about 1974 and their work spans the whole of the globe, with special projects taking place in Africa and India. This organisation has Gurdwaras in the UK, Kenya and India.

In the name of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj, the founder of the Sikh faith, Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha was founded.

Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha - history

Sikhism first emerged in the Indain subcontinent.  It was in Africa, where GNNSJ was first established by its founding Saint, Sant Baba Puran Singh Ji of Kericho.  amongst a community of Sikh settlers.

Sant Baba Puran Singh Ji was a Saint, but also a family man. He earned a living through honest toil and with many projects and irrespective of their background, he contributed selflessly to the welfare of those around him. He has been instrimental in motivating many Sikhs to make the threefold teachings of the Sikh faith a living and working reality.

Naam Japo - Kindle your spiritual flame through rememberance of the Divine Name.

Kirat Karo - Put sincere and humble effort into your daily work.

Wand Ke Chhako - Share with others the fruits of your labour.

Self-help, self-reliance and community participation is both encouraged and practiced at the Gurdwara (House of the Guru).

As well as many influential worldwide projects, the GNNSJ jatha has met with Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI and Kofi Anann (Former UN Secretary-General) to name just a few.

Baptisms

Large numbers of people get baptised at the Gurdwara in Soho Road every month. This is the only Gurdwara in Europe that provides such a sustained opportunity to be baptised into the Sikh faith. It has been doing so monthly for over twenty years.

Nishkam Centre

The Nishkam Centre was opened in 2006 and is located opposite the Gurdwara.

This is a Civic Association providing many creative, cultural and learning facilities for the good of community.
